COVID-19 VACCINES CONSPIRACY THEORIES
On the 03rd of March 2020,the first case of Covid-19 was confirmed in South Africa. Many people became curious and wanted to know more about this virus.At that stage the World Health Organization had already declared this virus as a global pandemic. This led to more questions than answers,especially after vaccines were made and distributed to African countries. Some questions resulted to conspiracy theories that has been trending over the past few months of which is tiring and overwhelming.
According to Fintech Company, about 52% of South Africans will not take the vaccine.Most of them believe that the vaccine can be deadly as the virus itself whereas others believe that Bill Gates had an input of using microchip to manipulate the population.Even high profile leaders have suggested that any vaccine not developed in Africa should be rejected and Africans should rely on alternatives such as indigenous herbs.These are the same people who have access to health care and the ones with limited access are misled.
Here are facts about COVID-19 VACCINES:
-COVID-19 vaccines were made to produce protection against the disease.Also it helps your immunity to fight if exposed.
-They are tested and clinically proven that they can be used.Approximately 90% effective.
- The reason why the vaccines were developed fast is because of financial investment put towards their development,the innovative technology used in their design and abundance of trial participants.
-A Covid-19 vaccine does not contain any of the live virus that COVID-19 so it cannot give you COVID-19.
As I conclude,be aware about fake news because it has the power to influence or completely change someone's perception during this sustained crisis.So remember that the pandemic is not over and the economy is still recovering.Therefore, be responsible and verify facts before disseminating information.Also let us continue to stay safe,sanitize,wear masks and social distance so that we can go back to our normal lives.

Conspiracy theories can help and can harm the society because people have their own beliefs and opinions of any kind of event happening around their society.

ReplyDeleteIt's difficult to change people's perceptions about covid-19 as some of the high profile people share Information that misleads people and social media makes it worse, which is why false information can easily replace facts and this does not only put people's lives in danger but also the economy will suffer.
I also believed that we were going to be zombies owned by Bill Gates which was a myth, this information really helped me
ReplyDeleteIt is true that it takes between 10 and 15 years to create a vaccine, this is due to the rather reluctant investments. But in an emergency, things are naturally accelerated. Nevertheless, doubt is cast on this vaccine and the reluctance is justified.
